Sorrow Factory Machines

サウスロンドンの移民街地区で、街のアーカイブを行うプロジェクト。 街の中から選び出した特徴的なオブジェクトをコラージュし、街に漂う物悲しい雰囲気を再現する装置を構想する。 装置は住民と共に働き、クリアランスによる移住や送還の際には彼らに伴い、この場所の記憶を伝え続ける。

Why and how feeling of sorrow comes into our heart? The project site, Elephant & Castle is considered one of the most depressed areas in London and is subjected to a master-planned redevelopment. Before the regeneration project clears the buildings and evicts the current residents, this project records characters of the place. This project aims to create an archive of ‘pieces of sorrow’ in the site and at the same time illustrate the ‘nature of sorrow’ itself.
